Monu #18 Communal Urbanism

“How should we live together?” is the central question of this edition of ‘MONU’, which focuses on contemporary communal living in cities. Themes of cooperative residential concepts are addressed through a number of different examples and perspectives. Included is an interview with Rainer Langhans, one of the early members of Berlin’s ‘Kommune 1’, plus a piece by Martin Abbott on ‘Hausprojekt Walde’, also in Berlin. Jason Reblando investigates New Deal Utopias in 1930s America, Maier Yagod writes about communal living as a flexible platform for collaborative possibilities, Adam Holland points to goodwill and participation as necessary for success, and much more.
